Banded Shades

Custom Banded Shades

Banded shades give you three looks in one product. Alternating sheer and solid bands glide past each other as the shade rolls, so you can have a clear view, soft filtered light, or full privacy just by adjusting the roll. They are one of our most requested modern styles.

How They Work

How Banded Shades Work

A banded shade is made of two striped fabric layers hanging in a loop. As the shade rolls, the front stripes slide across the back stripes. When sheer lines up with sheer, light and view come through. Roll a little further so solid covers sheer, and the room goes soft and private. You simply stop the roll wherever the light feels right.

That in-between position is what wins people over. Sunlight lands in even, soft ribbons across the floor, and the whole room feels warmer for it.

Banded shades are part of the same family as roller shades, so they share the traits that make rollers easy to live with: a compact cassette headrail, smooth operation, and cordless or motorized lift options that keep windows safe for kids and pets.

They have become our most requested treatment in newer construction around MetroWest, where builders favor big open windows that call for something clean and tailored. Once you see one operate in person, the sample does the selling.

Common Questions

Banded Shade Questions We Hear Most

Are they private enough at night?

With the solid bands aligned, yes, sightlines from outside are blocked. They are not blackout, though. For a bedroom that needs true darkness, we pair them with, or swap them for, a blackout roller or cellular shade.

Do the bands ever misalign?

No. The alignment is controlled by where you stop the roll, so it is always adjustable and nothing can drift out of sync. Motorized versions can even store your favorite positions as presets.

What do banded shades cost?

They run somewhat above a basic roller shade because of the dual layer fabric, starting around $250 per window installed and moving up with size and motorization. Your quote is firm before anything is ordered.
